Did you know?
Le Channel of Bourgogne has 189 locks that allow boats to cross the different heights of the land. Nearly thirty are located in Tonnerrois.
Let’s go back a little…
This 242 km waterway crosses part of the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté. It connects the Seine basin to the Rhone basin. The Channel of Bourgogne was inaugurated in 1832, at that time it was used for the transport of goods. Today, it has become a popular place for the Fluvial tourism, offering a natural setting for boat trips, bike rides or walks.
Ideal for cycling!
Nothing better than a walk along the water! The cycle route (part of the Tour de Bourgogne by bike) set up on the old towpaths of the canal offers you the opportunity to discover our territory in complete tranquility. To properly prepare your adventure, the Vélibook du Canal de Bourgogne will give you all the details.

Navigation on the Canal de Bourgogne is an ideal experience for boat trips, whether for a weekend or a full week. Although boat rental companies are located in Joigny, Auxerre and Vermenton, it is quite possible to navigate the section of the canal that does not have rental bases directly. The navigation period generally extends from April to October, thus offering great opportunities to discover the region by water. Most of the boats are license-free, which allows everyone, even beginners, to fully enjoy this adventure in the heart of the Bourgogne.
